Twitch, Amazon's massively popular video-game streaming service, has been hacked resulting in a major data leak. The data appeared to include Twitch's internal code and documents, as well as the payments made to thousands of top streamers. An anonymous poster on the 4chan messaging board released a 125GB torrent earlier today, which includes the entirety of Twitch and its commit history. Twitch now says the breach was caused by a server configuration change that that was subsequently accessed by a malicious third party and exposed some data. Its file structure contains folders labeled as containing pay-out information, business documents, under-the-hood software files and code, and even details of unreleased projects. The pay-outs folder contains what appear to be records of payments made to thousands of the biggest streamers on the platform over two years - showing many of the biggest brands are earning millions of dollars. While personal information like creator payments is included, this leak doesn't appear to include passwords, addresses, or email accounts of Twitch users. Instead, the leaker appears to have focused on sharing Twitch's own company tools and information. The leak has been labeled as part one, suggesting that there could be more to come.
