Last Friday, Elon Musk(CEO of Tesla) replied to a Twitter follower's question, "Sorry, this is embarrassingly late. Two-factor Authentication via SMS or authenticator app is going through final validation right now". In April 2019, Musk said that the additional security layer was "coming soon." and He first mentioned that the company would add two-factor Authentication in May 2019. This two-factor Authentication is a way to verify that the account holder or car owner is logged in and not the hacker. Some websites do this by sending a text message, but as hackers can intercept that, security experts prefer to use an authenticator(a mobile app). At present, Tesla mobile app is an essential tool for users with many features like remotely locking and unlocking the doors, trunk, and frunk, locating the vehicle, scheduled service, turning on the HVAC system, etc. And adding up security to Tesla's mobile app is pressing. These days using this two-factor Authentication is widely employed to stop hackers from using stolen passwords. But as Musk said in his tweet, It is unclear whether the two-factor tool relay on SMS or mobile app.
