US-based cybersecurity firm FireEye has said that hackers broke into a leading India-based healthcare website, stealing 68 lakh records containing patient and doctor information. Without taking names, FireEye said cybercriminals are mostly China-based, directly selling stolen data from healthcare organizations and web portals globally, including India in the underground markets. In its report of FireEye on sharing with IANS, 6,800,000 records associated with an India-based healthcare website containing patient information and personally identifiable information (PII), doctor information, PII, and credentials were stolen by a bad actor named "fallensky519". As open-source reports show that cancer mortality rates have increased dramatically in recent decades, making cancer China's leading cause of death, the report claimed that Targeting medical research and data from studies may enable Chinese corporations to bring new drugs to market faster than Western competitors. As biomedical device usage increases, the potential for them to become an attractive target for cyberattacks is also growing, and contested attack surfaces may also be higher than today.
